Pre/Post 96 Diversion differences

Hi
I am going to look at a 600 Diversion S tomorrow on the way home from work.
The owner says that it was imported from the USA, and that the bike is a 1996 model. However, that is what the registration date on the V5 will say as its date of Registration which may well be different from the year of manufacturer.
I have found the guide on reading the serial number so I will check that when I view the bike.
However an initial look around the web leads me to believe that the model was updated in 1996 but I havent found much information on what these updates actually were. Any ideas?
Are there any other significant differences between USA and UK spec machines?
Oh, and this bike is yellow with a black frame and black 4-2 exhausts as far as I can tell from the sellers crappy photos. All the machines I have seen have a frame colour to match the body work?
Any help provided will be gratefully received!!
