Charging System...

Well, 30 degrees out this morning and she wouldnt start for me!!! Do the lights on these bikes tend to dim at idle or do i have a possible charging system problem...? Yes my battery is marginal and needs replacing and i understand voltage output is checked @ 5K rpm. Just wondering if the dimming at idle is at all normal on these before i go digging. I did test the battery when i bought the bike and i knew it was not reliable, i kind of figured it was not going to start today.
