Carb syncing Questions?

So I've just read thru the post about how to build a manometer and I have few questions as I'm still confused. Will a DIY manometer be sufficent enough to sync the carbs? Seemed like every other post flip floped on that one. Radare, how well do you think the closed system worked for you? I don't have $60-$100 to spend on a tool right now but could build one for less the $20. I just don't want to waste my time if it doesn't work. Any insight would be great. Thanks
