Dies when shifting into first or second?

I've had some sputtering lately in the low rpm range while riding, it idels and revs fine in neutral but when in gear sputters up to 5,000 rpm. As of this morning, I warmed her up shifted and she died. starts back up easily but dies as soon as I shift into first or second no matter how high I rev into the shift. I now have the carbs off the bike and everythhing looks pretty clean inside the bowls. I did however discover the o rings in the jet holders need replaced and under the needle jet bolt on carb number three the brass piece in there has sunken into the sleeve where the other three carbs that brass piece is flush with the top. Any thoughts?
