Gas Flowing from Carb 1 & 2 Vent Pipe While Running

1996 model just had carbs off to clean/time/rejet to 4-into-1 pipe.

Bike ran like crap initially, seemed like fuel starvation. Had a hard time starting choke or no choke.

Replaced plugs, which were jet black (not suprising given the work done to set up new pipe) 1 & 2 were wet, 3 & 4 were dry.

Bike started fine with new plugs, then died again as if fuel starvation. Would die while in gear/moving. Then hard to start, requiring throttle all the way open and lots of cranking.

I parked it for 1/2 hour, came back and, like magic, it started and began to idle low and evenly. Turned the idle adjustment screw about 1 full turn in. Idles great, revs great, no smoke.

Problem is gas now hemmorages out of the carb 1 & 2 vent hole.

Since it was not missing I checked to make sure there was fuel in the bowls of carb 1 & 2, no problem there.

I plugged the vent hole with a screw, put the bike at about a 45 degree angle on the right side to see if gas would flow out of the the carb 3 & 4 vent line. No gas came out of carb 3 & 4 vent line, and the fuel pushed hard enough to leak around the screw I was using to plug the vent from carb 1 & 2.

The vent pipe is the path of least resistance, but it does not make sense to me that if there was a plug somewhere why gas is getting into carbs 1 & 2. Plus I can't make it leak out of the carb 3 & 4 vent pipe.

Flow increases when revved, which makes sense.

Got me swingin'. Thoughts???

Thanks!
