I'm going through an engine that has had some noise which sounded like some bad bearings.

So based on the crankshaft journal numbers and the case journal numbers I took the difference to get the bearing dimensions, just like the Haynes manual says. I just took out the old ones and noted that the ones in are not of the same dimensions I got. It matches if you would flip one of the numbers so you're taking the difference of two numbers where one is ordered 1 through 5 and the other 5 through 1. But that has to be wrong! So could someone just confirm this. Is this most likely also why some of the bearings are worn with some pretty rough marks and why the engine was making noise?
