Huge shout out to forum member sixtyeight.

Last weekend I rode over to Berkeley to pick up a seat I bought on eBay. Turns out I bought it from him and got to spend the afternoon wrenching on my new XJ in his shop. Bam.

Being new to motorbikes we got to talking about the XJ, my XJ, and I mentioned everything was running great except I had this oil leak. Two minutes later sixtyeight had me hosing the thing down and spraying it with baby powder. What a great way to find a leak.

Told me it was behind the clutch cover gasket. Just so happened he had one gasket on hand... the 93 clutch cover gasket!

He asked me if I was cool opening it up. I said why not. Then we were draining the oil. Boom.

Now for some this is no big deal, oil leak, gaskets, whatever, but for me it was awesome to see inside the machine.

Check out the bum gasket. Stuff was stuck on there pretty good.

Nothing a little paint thinner and some serious tiny paint brush finesse couldn't take off. (Not pictured: Super clean aluminum surfaces and the best BBQ sandwich in CA!)

There you have it folks. How to diagnose an oil leak and replace a gasket. There were tons of tricks and twists only 68 knows. So if you have questions, you'll have to ask him. Keep on rolling on!
