How many volts is too many?

So as you may have seen(or not) I've been playing with my bike the last month or so fixing it. And my battery kept dying while riding and not charging. Did some tests, got Mr. Draco's regulator and hooked it up with a new connector. Fired it up, tested at 13.6V. Aww yeah. Rode it up and down the road for a few. Then tested again at 15.6V. That seems too high, but idk bikes very well. If I get to 16V will that start melting wires? How do I fix that, or will the regulator go down with time?
