Hello Everyone. I recently acquired a 1994 Yamaha XJ 600, and tore it down to bare metal, and built it back up. It only had 10K on it when I found it, but it was in poor condition, and even had a major mechanical accident. Fortunately, I was able to get replacement parts for super cheap off of ebay, and tons of help from this forum. Today my bike is 95% complete, awaiting gauges and headlight. In total this project has cost in total around $1000. To begin I tore it all apart, and stripped all the yellow paint with Klean Strip aircraft remover. I then primed it with VHT primer and sealer, and finished it off with VHT satin black epoxy paint. I rebuilt the forks, replaced the swingarm, sprocket cover, chain, brake pads, brake fluid, plugs, exhaust gaskets, new battery, wired it all back up, flushed it with lots of fresh high grade oil, and put it on new Kenda cruisers. Oh ya, I cant forget those gorgeous gaiters :) It runs incredibly well, no odd noises, or cut outs. What makes me most proud is that I accomplished this all myself, in my own garage, with my own tools. I have yet to take it on a long ride, due to it not being totally legal yet, but so far I am very confident in this bike. My dilemma now is deciding what headlight style to go with. I was dead set on installing the Dominator dual headlight on some billet fork ears, but the reviews on these headlights have been negative. There are a set of gauges I love, and will work on XJs from Dime City Cycles, but they are quite expensive, so I am still exploring my options. My biggest trouble is trying to find the coil covers, which are stock on the Euro XJ600N models, however I think I will just go ahead and fabricate them myself. That is all for now, and thank you all for making this possible. This forum is truly a gold mine of information. Image
