I just replaced my float needle valves and set my floats and although my needle valves were pretty sorry, the new ones didn't resolve my problem.

the bike idles perfect, has poor response the second I twist the throttle at all, and then slowly revs through the clatter and runs perfectly beyond low throttle. it also fouls the #4 plug while the others look amazing. I have good spark on all 4.

the local gearheads (and those here) were 100% behind float adjustment but friends are now yelling diaphragms. when I rebuilt the carbs they looked good. had no pinholes but as they sat for many years before, could they just be slightly hardened? it makes sense to me that slow airflow in could cause this problem. especially with the larger pilot jets I installed. it also makes sense to me that it could be solved by them finally opening and things running smoothly at higher rpm's. but this is my first project and what the balls do I know.

if it sounds like I may be on the right track, where can I find these things at a reasonable price? I looked briefly on ebay and didn't see anyone giving them away. hate to pick up a used set and find out those are in the same boat.

obviously, im open too any other ideas as well.

thanks all for putting up with one problem after another.
