Front brake switch question

Hi there. I recently bought a 93 XJ600 and I noticed the brake light staying on. I figured out it is due to the front brake switch. The switch works properly but I'm not sure where the pin is supposed to connect to the brake lever or somewhere else? Right now it just rests on the big washer that is part of the rod assembly to the master cylinder.When the brake lever is released it does not pull the pin out of the switch enough to turn off the light. Maybe the bike is missing a piece the pin connects to or can I adjust that washer out more? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
