XJ600 Carby Question

Just trying to get my 1992 Xj running on number one pot. It idles and runs smooth until I open the throttle and it splutters and misfires. Pretty sure it is not electrics as I changed coils and leads. I just had the carbies rebuilt so seem to be clean. Can anyone tell me what the breather tube does from the valve cover to carby number 1? When running it fills up with oil. Is this normal and how does this effect the other carbies.
