I'm having trouble with a 94 Seca II. I have replaced the starter as the old one was completely knackered. After installation I have the dreaded "click" from the starter solenoid. Here's what I've done so far:

1. Double checked that the battery is charged. It is. It turns over the starter just fine when power is directly applied.
2. Checked the resistance in ohms of the solenoid. It reads 0.00. No guarantee that I'm doing that properly, but I think I am. I measure the resistance across the two poles with power applied and the starter button depressed.
3. I cleaned the main ground to the engine.
4. The starter motor turns over when I apply just the +V lead to the input shaft of the starter. This tells me that the motor is getting a good ground.
5. All lights etc. work well.
6. I have tried all the tests with the side stand up and the clutch in.
7. All fuses are good and I replaced them to be sure.

I can't read power going to the +V lead to the starter motor. It may be that I'm doing something wrong. I attach the red probe to the +V lead from the solenoid to the starter and touch the -V probe to the frame of the motor. I set the multimeter to read DCV and press the starter button. The figures change wildly with no discernable pattern.

Any ideas why my starter motor won't turn over when I press the ignition button?
