rebuilding items

Hey all, I'm thinking about getting a starter/generator rebuild kit. I don't have a ton of tools but have enough and could probably barrow other need items mainly I only have the basic. I just got a new battery and I've been thinking about rebuilding a few things. Is this something that shouldn't be a huge items to do myself? I've got a pretty decent mechanical ability just limited by tools, space, knowledge of doing this kind of stuff for the first time, ect. Where can I get a good kit too? Now that I'm done going to school full time and working I have more time to do this stuff. Thanks!
