Cam Chain noise - tensioner maxed

I've seen in a few posts references to cam chain noise being "normal"at some point on these bikes. My shop noticed the noise when I had it in recently and mentioned to me that the tensioner adjust was maxed out - I think then tried to adjust manually but couldn't go further, something broke. They said it would be a big deal to get in there and fix it but it didn't hurt anything so just as well to leave it. Does it figure that I can still get a fair amount of miles yet? I'm about at 19k
