front wheel removal tips?

Hello!
On next week plan to go on tire shop - bought front tire, and put in to the wheel.
tire shop want a 20$ if he do all, who i bit too high for me. hes also say, if i give hem a wheel, then price drops twice -10$
reading haynes about remove front wheel - they suppose to get off brake callipers. maybe it can be done without removing and reinstalling brake calipers?
what can be used to support motorcycle, to get off weight from front ( when xj600 is on centerstand, front tire touches ground) ?
i be happy to read about tricks and tips about that subject there.
