Gas Tank Repair

I have the original gas tank in pretty decent condition, no scratches, dents, chipped paint, but the holes for the lid of the gas tank are completely stripped of the threading for the gas tank lid. It seems the previous owner tried to redrill holes too. How would one be able to fix this where I could put my new gas tank lid on secure enough?
