I have a center stand but no spring. What to do?

I was on Ebay about a month ago and finally came across a stand in the UK and jumped on it. I had been looking for a while and decided not to wait any further. However, what I didn't realize is the stand I picked up is missing one important component. Has anyone looked into some sort of replacement spring and/or does it have to be OEM? I'm wondering if there's something I can just acquire at a hardware store of similar specifications. Any ideas?
