Spark plug replacement intervals???

What is the recommended interval for changing out the spark plugs? Since I've had all sorts of issues with the bike and I took the plugs out and some where dark and wet looking should I replace the spark plugs. I have a receipt saying they were changed last year on August 2nd. Maybe about 1000 miles on them. Don't know if it would be a good idea or not, your thoughts?
