Hey everyone,
I'm a new member here and really like what I see on this forum. I just purchased a 1993 xj600 with only 7,000 miles on it for $1000.00

This is my first bike and I've never worked on a bike before, but I do have a high 10 second eclipse that I built. I can really use some input on this sudden issue.

After I bought the bike, I noticed that it idled a little low (900-1000 rpm) and had a very slight bog at initial throttle. I decided to change the oil and filter as my first maintenance job. Today, I took it out for a spin and I noticed a backfire / popping coming from the right exhaust pipe. I filled up with some fresh 93 gas becuase I was running pretty low and that did not help. It only happens when I'm coasting, idling, or cruising at a consistant speed. I especially notice it between 2500-3500 rpm, not at high rpm. I just changed the plugs and noticed the middle plug, towards the left side, was black and all the others were a golden brown.

Does this sound like a carb problem? I'm new to carbs and just learning how they work. Would it be worth it to have a shop professionally clean and sync the carbs, becuase the original owner said he only did it once a long time ago.

thanks,
Vinnie
