oil leak

So I have an oil leak I believe is coming from the oil pan gasket. My question is can you remove the oil pan without removing the whole engine? The book says remove the engine, but I don't really want to do all that. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping someone out there knows a way.
