Regulator "burning Hot"

The regulator/rectifier becomes "burning hot" :yikes: and completely untouchable mounted directly on to the frame of the bike - am I missing a alu/cobber plate on the back to help get rid of the heat. Is a "burning hot" RR a normal thing ?
