New and need help

Hey guys new here and needing some insight and advice, so I was riding my 92 xj 600 and took it out on the interstate, everything was fine till I went to exit an when I down shifted it revved up an wouldn't go over 35 and stalled out . Now it won't fire up, it acts like it wants to but it doesn't, any and all help would be appreciated
