Hi All,
I was hoping you could help me with figuring out whats wrong with my 92 XJ400 please? Its been a long time project I bought to work on before my son was born (who is seven this year!!)
Being locked in with the covid-19 situation in the UK I have been getting it ready again for the road.
Long story short the bike was running fine, balanced the carbs and was sounding great, I put the throttle cable back on then suddenly it won't start. I had a good look around and figured my carb rubber boots had given up as cracked and crappy, ordered new ones, waited two weeks for delivery then removed carbs to fit them, all installed no problem and the bike flashed up again, no problem so figured a vacuum issue and was right to replace boots.
Today I've just fitted the throttle cable again and now it won't start exactly as before! Just keeps turning over without the sound of a pop. Was thinking I flooded it by opening the throttle to get the return cable on the wheel maybe?? I've done the following to try and get it started again....
1. Emptied carb drains (only fuel in no 4)
2. Removed plugs and checked they are dry and sparking
3. Cranked it with plugs out to see if it spat fuel out, but it didnt
4. Checked fuel is flowing from the workshop tank I got through the vacuum fuel pump, yes, all good.
Still the above but it won't start, do you guys know what I can do other than waiting another 2 weeks for something to maybe dry out? Is something flooded somewhere I don't know??
Thanks guys from sunny but stuck indoors UK!
