So I got a 99' XJ600N after looking into bikes for some time. The bike seems decent enough, apart from clunky idle noises. But I was told it is somewhat normal for these.
It is first time I've ever even sat on a bike. I just wanted something to work on and a motorcycle seemed like the easier thing to find place and time for than a project car or such. Added benefit of it being a fun new experience
Setting out to fix the play in the oil pump drive gear:

After ordering new bolts and springs, all is back together now. However the EBC springs seem to be very heavy. I need to first replace the clutch cable to fully get rid of the variables, but not sure if it's not going to be a pain in the ass.
Also the crappy dials that were on it. The tach backplate was broken off, the speedo shows nonsense and the indication lights are barely visible. also backlight is too bright. I tried finding an original dash, but nowhere in the whole country there was one for a reasonable price. Tried an YBR125 dash, but that proved very bulky, so I settled for now with one of the chinese ss182 dials. It's not too aesthetic for a bike like this, but it should be efficient enough. Made a bracket for it out of 3mm aluminium, now it just needs to be connected up to the ratsnest of a wiring mess that has been done in the front of this poor thing.
