Just got back from checking out a non-running 96 seca II with 30000 km. First impressions, the bike looked very nice and fairly clean for sitting for a few years  . The story i got was that he bought the bike about a year ago with the intention of getting it running but got a new job and is travelling too much now. Short of buying a new set of carbs, he did nothing to the bike. The person he bought it from had never had it running and had it for about two years. Apparently this previous owner took the old carbs apart and lost most of the pieces at some point :censor: . ---grain of salt...
So here's what i found...
It's going to need some paint, the rear tail plastics are faded to a nice pink and the front cowling or fairing (around the headlight) has been painted black with a red pinstripe. Not a very good paint job, looked like it was put on with a roller... It has the lower half fairing that'll need some touching up too.
The tank has a few very minor scratches that should easily buff out, no dings or dents, and inside was super clean as far as i could see. It looked like the paint inside was intact and what rust i did see looked like it could be wiped off with a rag if i could've reached it. The lip of the tank was rusty, but nothing was flaking.
The frame and brakes look fine, no rust on the rotors either which kind of surprised me. I looked for signs of it being dropped and saw a couple possibles but i don't think it has. The right side peg bracket was broken at the peg attachment point but no other signs of damage on that side. On the left, there's a mean looking scratch running horizontal along the muffler, sucks cause it's chrome  . I could see the same directional scratch on the clutch cover and a minor rub on the handle bar ends. This whole area looks like a drop but the way the scratches run (from front to back) it looks more like it was run along a concrete wall or something. No idea.
Electrical is fine except the brake light, although i'm 99.9% sure its just a bulb that's needed as the left signal was running super fast. Oh, and the battery was dead. I brought along my handy dandy booster pack just in case :brow: . I pulled the plugs, the electrodes were pretty black but not worn, the ceramics looked cleaned, and we had spark, not great spark, but spark.
Next up i checked compression...now the carbs weren't on the machine so i really didn't know what to expect for numbers, that and the bike was cold and had been sitting for a long time. Here's the numbers 150:149:179:152. I rechecked all a second time and they all gave the same numbers. Not sure about #3 being so high though, valve adjustment maybe? To me, other than #3, the numbers look good, taking into account the bike was cold which should lower the numbers. Would having no carbs attached cause the numbers to be over inflated?

Anyways, the guys looking for $700. I did get the old "someone was by this week story" but that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. If it works out, it works out. He's been sitting on the sales ad since last fall.

So, i'm looking for any opinions anyone may have, including what to offer. I've a decent feeling about the bike, as much as one can have without it running. I'm looking forward to any and all comments.
