This one's driving me mad!
I've been chasing an issue with cylinder 2 for some time now - sometimes it just won't fire up!
Fairly certain I've eliminated a spark issue (swapped leads and plugs around, tested coils etc etc).
Had the carbs apart, cleaned them out (twice over!) so don't think it's a blocked jet. Also checked float settings etc
Valves are all in spec, and it has good consistent compression across all cylinders.
Carb rubbers, intake orings etc, etc all been replaced so can't see it being an intake leak.
Just about out of ideas when it occoured to me that it might be the fuel pump?
Strange symptoms though - usually (but not always) it will kick in when the bike is warmed up, and it seems to be more likely that it wont fire in cold weather. Always cylinder 2 as well - none of the others seem effected.
It occoured to me today that it might happen more when fuel tank is low, making me think that once the fuel level in the tank drops below the carbs and gravity isn't assisting the pump can't cope?
Strange that it's only cylinder 2 that's ever effected, and that it seems to work once warmed?
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone's got any experience or thoughts, before I head down another dead end!
Chris
P.s. it's a UK '92 with a vacuum fuel pump.
Always
