Well it would appear that the honeymoon period of owning my new bike is over.

I seem to have an intermittent I-wont-start-so-there issue. It started just fine this morning, although seemed to take longer to get it off the choke than I'd expected. Got half a mile down the road, and the bike cut out. On pushing the starter button, all I am getting is one (relatively loud) click from under the seat. With this click is the red oil warning light.

So I pushed it home (up a hill, with a very sad-face on), got home from work, put the key in and it started straight away, but again took a while and needed choke despite it being pretty warm and sunny. So this time I left it running until it no longer needed any choke, stopped it, and it wont start again.

After a few more attempts it started again, then cut out with a series of rapid clicks, went back to the one click only thing with the oil light coming on each time.

Frustratingly it also turns out that my voltmeter is knackered :(

So heres what I do know - the battery is fine and the terminals are tight, and the engine isn't hydrolocked. Whatever is at fault seems to be intermittent. As soon as the bike cranks it starts, albeit grumpily and on choke for a wee while. I flicked some water at the header pipes while it was running and pipes 2,3 and 4 seemed much hotter than number 1 (no steam/sizzle?) I wouldnt be surprised if this is a separate issue.

My plan is to check the clutch, sidestand and neutral switches as they're straightforward to check, and from there the starter relay and starter.

Any advice would be gratefully received though, the sun is shining, my bike is not running, and I am sad :(
