Hello XJ riders, my name is Ed, I hail from Morris county in northern New Jersey. A few months ago I became an XJ owner when I bought a 1996 Seca II I found on Craigslist for $1600, and it looked like a pretty good deal with 12K on the clock and clean for 17 yrs. old. I bought this bike as a commuter, since I have a 4 mi. ride to work, and figured it would probably do the job. Got more than I expected. I am coming off a 4 yr. hiatus from riding because of job loss, tough economic times etc. and grabbed the chance to get back on two wheels. I previously rode a Suzuki 1400 Intruder for 8 yrs. and before that, a GS 1000, for many years. After doing the cruiser thing for awhile, I forgot how nice it is to ride a bike that HANDLES. The Seca needed a little work to get her in nice shape, tires, chain, lots of detailing with a black spray can, losing the tape graphics, and most of all, a gearing change (2T smaller rear sprocket ) which really made a difference in the overall feel of the bike. I now cruise on the hwy. at about 5 grand and I can actually use some the lower gears on back roads. But it's the bike's agility on those same back roads that really makes me smile. It also got my 22 yr. old son (a graduate of Dirt Bike U.) on the road. He's on an FZ 6 now, and hasn't looked back. Along the way I acquired a wing-man, so the Seca story just gets better. Anyway, I'm very glad I found my little rEDride and look forward to becoming a part of the XJ community. The only bummer now is the onset of winter in NJ and waiting for spring to tilt the horizon again

And how she is at the present moment
