For all those out there wondering what exhausts can be modified to fit the xj... Here is a few photos as to how to get the fzr400 headers to fit...
First of all the fzr600 pipes are a waste of time, unless you want to do a lot of heavy fabrication in order to make this a possibility... The angles of the pipes once installed would leave the exit from the collector pointing toward the ground and become a serious clearance issue, not to mention looking ludicrous and being subject to the same treatment as the fzr as far as bending the pipes to the correct spacing and reducing the flanges to fit into the xj exhaust ports
Ok... So here it went...
A friend of mine had a set of these laying about and after doing a serious bit of reading and not really getting anywhere, my friend generously donated the 4-1 headers he had surplus to the cause..
After a bit of general measuring and a general test fit it became clear that aside from the obvious problem of the outer diameter of the flanges on the manifold that the fit was near perfect, in regards to clearance at the sump and oil filter and the resulting position of the collector and mid pipe..
So out came the grinder...
