I recently had a very bad 12 hours with my bike. To make a long story short it was laid down twice in those 12 hours, once on each side.
Problem #1: So, my gas tank has dents on both sides from the handlebars along with scrapes on both front fairings. I have not had good luck finding replacement parts decently inexpensive. I have started to wonder for the gas tank if I can't get the dents popped out and can't find a replacement tank, is there any other tank that would fit on there? Perhaps another model of Yamaha from the same era (mine is a 93 by the way) that I wouldn't need to do any major modifications to put it on. Also, for the fairings I like the naked look, but don't want to/ can't afford to replace the gauges to make most of those happen. Has anyone found a front piece that works over the top of the original gauges? Also, I know there are some Colorado people on here...Does anyone have a body shop they recommend to look at the tank and possibly the fairings to see if they are fixable at a reasonable price?
Problem #2: After the second crash I noticed oil leaking out. After searching for the source I noticed it was coming out of the gas tanks overflow tube. I'm a novice to motorcycle wrecks and can't think exactly how this would happen. Is this a normal thing? After putting oil back in I tried starting the bike and it did turn over after a few cranks, but it obviously was burning some oil. If somehow the oil is able to get into the gas tank and/ or line if I just drain the tank and put fresh gas in will I be fine?
Problem #3: I am moving to New York City in just over a month. I originally thought I would bring this with me to be able to take weekend road trips out of the city. Now with this disaster I'm unsure. I realize this isn't exactly the place for this, but does anyone ride in the NYC area? Would it be asking for another disaster? If I don't bring it I would try to sell it. Mechanically (up till the wreck) it was working great and it has only 15k miles on it. How much realistically could I expect to get out of it. I will take pictures tomorrow and post them to help you judge.
