Can't figure this out?

Ok, the first picture is the bike as I bought it with the ignition key switch as you can see pushing against the dash light column preventing it to sit properly. It seems to tilt back from the handle bars, when I fit the dash it clashes, The key switch bolts up and sits nicely against the top yolk, and the dash sits fine without the key switch. Nothing appears bent/damaged.

I have now rebuilt the bike to find this to be the case, but for the life of me can't work out why, unless this is not the correct key switch for this yr bike.. However from my initial searches, it seems to be the right one (with two connectors on the loom).

Any ideas as to why this is not fitting right?
