Timing a bit off

I found out that my timing is like 1-2 tooth off and i think it's because of when I changed my valve shims. Im thinking of removing the cam tensioner and take the chain off the camshafts and rotate the shafts and put on the chain back on and see if the timings is better. Or is there a better way?
