I am 6 foot tall and my jeans are a 32" inseam. So not as tall as you but not far out on leg length.

If you can I would definitely recommend at least sitting on one, but preferably riding one, before you buy. I don't think I would want to be much taller on my bike although its comfy for me.

I also think that although you are worried about slow speed handling and weight of the TDM, you would quickly get used to this as you spend more time on a bike. It probably feels like a worry as its different from what you are used to.

The XJs are good bikes though - predictable, easy to ride, well balanced - just need to make sure its comfortable before buying.

I would also recommend looking at a BMW F650. I had an early Funduro (great bike, terrible name) and was only just tall enough to ride it. My dad (6 foot 3) absolutely loved his and rode all over Europe on it.
