So I tried to do a valve adjustment today without much luck. The PO said he never did one and the bike has 40,000+ miles. I was only able to check the clearance on three of the intake valve and on one exhaust valve. The rest were tighter than my thinnest feeler gauge (.038mm). I also wasn't able to remove any of the shims because I bought the wrong tool. So my question is, what do I now? How can I determine what shim to use if I have no idea what the clearance is. I see they have feeler gauges that go down to .025mm so I guess I'll get that and try again. But what if that doesn't work?
Also, I checked the clearance with the cam lobes 180º away from each other and not 180º pointing away from the bucket if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Theo
