Hey guys sorry I have been gone for awhile and finally got back to finishing this Seca I bought in 2012. Rebuild is 98% done. Replaced everything that needed replacing and tracked some parts down. Rode it for 2 days and it started pouring gas from the bowls and into the engine.. out of the exhaust? Had my buddy rebuild the carbs 6 times thinking I missed something. Than I realized neither of us checked float heights!
I got these carbs from a guy on here from cali, I opened them up tonight and they seemed close but slightly out of spec (5-9mm) Heres the problem
If I'm looking at any one of the sets of floats. The float on the left (furthest from the float needle) is substantially lower than the float on the right (directly next to the float needle) So that the float on the left may be around 6mm from the gasket line but the other side is 8mm.. Are our floats supposed to be offset like this within each bowl or did the guys before me bend them somehow and I need to bend them all level, then redo float height?
I also noticed the pins on the float needles don't support the weight of the floats so i ordered new ones off eBay to swap out before i adjust float levels again. Also Put in new 20 pilots and new 102.5s on the mains. If anyone could illustrate with pictures that would be awesome. I'm very much a visual learner
Does it sound like I'm on the right track fuel leak wise? and can anyone get back to me on these offset floats?? Much appreciated and all you're threads have guided me though this rebuild. The knowledge I've accumulated from this page got me into rebuilding ar 23 years old and I recently finished a 1981 Kawasaki 440LTD belt drive from Rebuild to Paint. This is by far the best community and Forum I've seen on the web.
