After years of fighting the battle, I'm caving for the sake of usability. While I disagree with the decision for a number of reasons ranking from forum software upgrade concerns to image sizing issues, I've decided to turn on attachments for the sake of user convenience.

Now, when you create a new post, you have two ways to insert a picture. The easier way is to drag the image and drop it right into the body of your post. This will attach it and the file will be listed below. Select the "Place Inline" button to place your image in the post, where you want it. Otherwise, it'll show as an attachment below the post.

The slightly more difficult way is to select the Attachments tab, below. Then click on the "Add File" button and select the image you wish to attach. Once that's done and the image name is displayed, select where you want the image in your post and click the "place inline" button.

I've tried this on both my phone (Windows 8 with IE) and my Surface (Windows 10 using Opera) and it works fine in both cases.

There are some caveats: Image size has to be less than 8MB and smaller than 10MP. If not, it won't upload (remember, server disk space is expensive).

And the image placed below this post is simply an attachment.

Downsides to attachments include: You can't edit, organize, or preview your images. You can't link to your images outside of the forum. My preference is, and will always be, to use the site's fancy (and expensive) gallery software.

Please, please, don't be lazy. Post images inline, create useful and high-quality content, and maintain your image sizes. This is a trial period and, if image posting is a mess, I'll switch the attachments feature back off.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
