First of all I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for voting my bike XJ of the Month
Ok where to start, well I bought this bike off Ebay about 3 years ago, I paid £700/$1,116
I was pretty lucky to get an XJ in such good condition, and only 16,000 miles on the clock, ( and it was located only 10 miles away from my house) most of the XJ's in my area ( 30 miles from LONDON ) have been used as motorcycle courier/dispatch bikes, and 50,000+ mile XJ's are common, even 70 or 80 thousand mile bikes are not unheard of !!
Anyway, here is the photo of the bike from the ebay ad

and here it is when I got it home

To be honest I havn't done that much to it since then
But here are some of the things I DID do
First a bloody good CLEAN !!! and then..........
1 - painted the centre of the brake disc's Gold
2 - put Red rim tape on the wheels
3 - the guy i bought it from had painted the whole motor ( even the plugs+ caps HT leads fuel filter ect ect ) with cheap silver paint, it took me hours to clean all that crap off with carb cleaner !!
4 - painted the two grey engine covers with ROVER ( the car ) storm grey paint ( a little bit dark but not a bad match )
5 - painted the centre and side stand
6 - painted the rear shock ( red spring )
7 - fitted mini indicators/ turn signals
8 - removed the rear mudguard extention thing ! and fitted a smaller number/ licence plate ( not really legal in the UK, but it looks alot better and I don't seem to get any hassle from the cops........... touch wood !! )
9 - changed the fork seals,( genuine Yamaha), one started leaking not long after I got it home...... typical, and put thicker 15w oil in them
10 - replaced the clutch thrust bearing and cable ( genuine Yamaha )
11 - And my biggest extravagance......... the full stainless steel DELKEVIC exhaust system ( and finaly the Delkevic stright through end can )
12 - polished the aluminium footpeg brackets/hanger
Oh one more thing, I always change the oil and filter every spring ( I use silkolene semi synthetic and genuine Yamaha filter )
and here are a few more photos
this is one with the original delkevic end can ( quiet and restrictive )

and the stright through delkevic end can

Thanks again Guys
Mike
