Hi everyone, I'd love anyone's input on this.
Problem:
My battery died twice and it was over 4 years old, so I bought a new one. However, the new one also died after one day of riding.
Background:
I thought I had an oil leak a little while ago. It was coming out of the crankshaft seal. I bought a new seal and wanted to try replacing it the risky way. A couple of people on the forum have done it before. I removed the cover to the magnetic pick-up and timing plate, removed the plate and the pick-up sensor, got the rest off and was able to see the crankshaft seal. It looked good and I got nervous about attempting to pry it out. At the advice of a friend, I put it back together and did an oil change. Bike ran great, no leaks. That's when the battery died (after just one day of riding).
She's a '96 XJ600.
Any thoughts? I was told I could have caused the problem when I removed the magnetic pick-up sensor and put it back on, but my first thought was rectifier/regulator.
