Hi,
Just a side note on the Metelli valve shims available here in Europe in sizes 25mm OD, around 2 Euros per piece.
There are two or three versions of them:
Metelli Valve Shims and Adjusting Pads are proposed with the following types of material:
A = Cemented and hardened steel.
AS = Special steel.
AN = Normal steel.
The ones for the Toyota are "A" type
I tend to think that our engines are more like the ones made for Honda, an needs the "AS" type:

This type goes also in the Ford Fiesta/Puma 1.4i 16v in 95-02 years.
It is not just about hardness, the different types has different surface finish contacting with the cam lobe surface.
I'm absolutely not an engineer in metallurgy.
If there anyone who could adjust my reasoning?
regards
