Hello all, I'm having an issue with my '97 Seca II. I'm occasionally getting a thump, thump kind of vibration every so often. It's intermittent and only seems to do it above 40 mph. When it's making the noise, it'll go thump, thump and a few seconds later it'll do it again and it may continue doing it or go away by itself.
While it's making the vibration, I can pull in the clutch lever, ie. engaging the clutch, and the noise goes away but will come back when I let the lever back out. Does this possibly mean transmission problems, I wonder?
I'm wondering if this sounds like a sticking/failing drive chain link(s)? But I installed a new RK 520XSO X-ring drive chain & JT steel sprockets about 15k miles ago back in April 2014, the chain & sprockets still look good and seem to work fine while I'm turning the rear wheel by hand. I'm keeping the chain oiled & adjusted. Unless I find something else, I guess I'm going to pull the chain, clean it and then check for sticking links by hand. I've wore out chains/sprockets on other bikes before but never had these symptoms and I've put over 35k on this model/type/brand of chain before on another although smaller bike.
Am I heading in the right path or any other ideas/suggestions?
Thanks, Tony
