Just bought myself a 1992 Xj600 after about a 10 year break from having a bike. I stumbled across this forum while I was taking a look at what I'd let myself in for!
Now in my mid 40s, I find the bike world has moved on.... my first bike was a Yamaha SR500, then a honda CX500. I then had two yamaha XS750s one after another... at the same time a number of smaller bikes, suzuki gsx250t is one I remember for beeing a lot of fun and really small!!
I then got an ex police Moto guzzi v1000, which I kept for ever up to me quitting bikes for a while... though during that period I also had a honda cb750 hardtail chop....
I decided on the XJ to let myself in gently and figured it would do the commuting and short journeys I had in mind admirably. I also felt it would be big enough and comfortable enough to cope with the occasional pillion and keep up with all the local traffic, while being cheep to run, easy to maintain and hopefully boringly reliable....
For may years I lusted after the big brother, xj900, but back then I didn't have deep enough pockets. In reality now I could have picked up a 900 for what this 600 cost me and I do like a shaft drive! but for the use I want to put it to, the 600 is probably a better bag.
I look forward to your comments and to contributing and letting you know how I get on.... I'm off to collect the bike tomorrow and have to stop on the way to buy a helmet! I have mixed feelings of excitement and trepidation..... mainly excitement!
