rectifier/regulator...new or used?

Guys, you know my budget issues and the need to get this up and going. used off ebay or one of the new chinese ones? I was going to ask how often one really goes out (mine just didn't make the trip up here with the other parts), but when I searched...quite a few of you have needed a new one.
