Okay, my 1997 XJ600 has been having this problem for about a year now, but it has gotten very bad lately. I can hear and feel a scrapping or grind every time the rear wheel hits a certain spot in it's travel. I've also noticed that I will tighten my chain properly, then I can turn the wheel and after a quarter turn it will be loose. Turn it again, and it will become tight again. I can feel the wear from this in some scrapping/grinding noise. It does this in all gears. I put up the back end, and when the wheel gets to the point of the scrapping noise the chain gets tight. If there is no tension on the chain the wheel does not make the noise. However, when the noise does happen it sounds like it's coming from inside of the wheel.
