Hi everyone,
I picked up a 1992 XJ600S as my first bike about a month ago and have been loving every minute of it. Yesterday, I took my first highway ride up to San Francisco (about 35 miles). The ride was great and I parked the bike with no problems on the street.
Upon returning to the bike after a few hours in the city, I started the bike up with the choke fully on, warmed it up for a few minutes, then turned the choke off and rode off. After a few blocks, my throttle response became very sluggish at anything below 2000 RPM, even in first gear. Then at a stop sign the engine sputtered and died. It wouldn't start back up again without the choke fully on. But even with the choke fully on, the engine was running much slower than usual (1-2K instead of 4-5K RPM), and opening the throttle at all would kill the engine. Eventually the engine stopped turning over, even with the choke fully on. The oil level was a bit low so I added some more (about 0.5L) of 10W40, but that did not fix the problem. Now when I try to start the bike the engine just churns but does not start.
Does anyone have an idea what the potential problems could be or how to start diagnosing the issue? I bought this bike with the intention of learning how to work on it, but my knowledge at this point is very limited so any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
