used or new throttle cable?

After doing some maintenance on my XJ i found that my clutch cable was frayed and not working properly. I ordered a new clutch cable this morning. This got me wondering how bad of shape my throttle cable could be. The cable itself doesn't look bad but its a bit stiff and sticks in a couple spots. After calling yamaha i found that they discontinued the cable and could not sell me one. I found some aftermarket ones but they ran around $50-$60! I can buy a used one for alot less but would i run into similar problems? Is that much money worth it for a new cable?
