Anybody here bother with Neck and Back Protectors?

The accidents that I have experienced to date seem to have involved leg, arm and foot injuries with a couple of helmet scuffs - now everybody seems to be talking about neck, back and even chest protectors, are these really necessary witrh a bike like a seca do you think?, after all it isn't the most powerful thing on the road - Please comment.
