xj 600 weird tapping noise

my 97 xj 600 has developed a weird tapping noise, it sounds like its coming from the engine but im not sure, it only happens when revving the bike and riding but if I get up to speed then hold the throttle in its position the tapping stops until I use throttle again, It doesn't do it on idle at 1000~ rpm either.
