10W40 Oil for 96 XJ600?

I am going to do an oil change on my 96 XJ600 this weekend. The oil was on sale and its 10W40. I'm sure it'll work just fine but does anyone advise against it? I've read around the 15W40 is the best way to go for an all year round bike. And the repair manual suggests, 10W30 or 20W40? Any advice? Otherwise I'm just gonna use what I got.
