All Terrain or Dual Sport Tires

This may seem like a crazy question. Is it possible to run dual sport/all terrain type tires on a 93 Sec II? I have seen this done on lots of different types of motorcycles other than traditional DS. Would there be any benefits to running those kind of tires or would it do more harm than good? Would it make it easier or safer to have this kind of tire if you have to ride down a dirt road or live where there is a lot of road construction causing excessive dirt and/or loose gravel on the paved road? Would this even be possible to do? Are there any tires of this style made that would fit?
